A streaming service that lets you access video from a number of different sources has been acquired by Nexstar Media Group for $4.7m.
X-Plex, which has been around since 2008, allows users to stream video directly from their Plex Media Server, but it’s also a web app that allows you to watch the video on your computer.
Nexstars Media Group was acquired by Plex Media, which is owned by a group of companies that includes X-Pax and other media companies.
We’re pleased to confirm that NexStars Media Group has acquired X-Play Media Server and will continue to operate it as an independent subsidiary of Nexstarr Media Group.
As part of this acquisition, NexStarr Media is also acquiring X-Motion Media Server.
The X-Player software is a desktop media player for the X-Pod.
It’s a popular alternative to the XFusion Media Server that has been popular for years, and it has been ported to a number devices and operating systems.
The company recently announced a partnership with the likes of Google to bring a mobile app to Android devices.
The acquisition also comes after a number streaming services were acquired by other companies, including Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix.
But Plex has always had a loyal following and the acquisition of X-Starr and X-XMotion would certainly boost its popularity in the streaming market.
