Posted April 02, 2019 11:25:23The rise of video sharing platform Vimeo has been largely attributed to the rise of the digital platform, which has been gaining popularity with young people around the world.
But for the Salem-based digital company, it’s also about growing its customer base, and one that’s growing faster than the rest of the world at the same time.
Vimeo launched its own social network in 2016.
The company is now expanding its network into digital platforms, including social, video, music, and news, and it’s expanding into the video and news business.
“Vox is the first video-based media platform that’s a part of a multi-platform ecosystem that includes digital, social, and content creators,” says Evan Williams, vice president of content at Vox Media.
“We are excited to be a part, and we’re proud to be the first to make this move.”
The company has been working on a new platform called Vimeo for about a year now, and Williams says it’s currently the fastest-growing video sharing service in the world, and with that growth comes a need for content creators.
“It’s like a gold mine for talent right now,” he says.
“There’s a ton of content creators around the country, and a lot of talent is being groomed to do the right job.”
Vox has had more than 60 employees since its launch in late 2016.
“When we started, we didn’t have the resources to hire full-time content creators for all of our platforms, so we had to make do with what we could find,” Williams says.
And that means that Vox is hiring at a rate of about 20 full-timers a month.
Williams says that while the company is hiring more than 20 people a month, he’s also seeing the growth of Vimeo as a way for the company to build a bigger audience, which is something he’s very passionate about.
“Our goal is to build our audience, to make it bigger and bigger and larger, and this is a great way to do that,” he explains.
“I think it’s the best of all worlds: It allows us to have a platform that has everything, but with the added advantage that we don’t have to be in New York City and in a studio to build it,” he adds.
The company’s goal for the platform is to create a platform where people from all backgrounds can collaborate and share their content.
Williams says that Vimeo is about connecting people from around the globe to one another, but that the company will also allow creators to connect to creators from around this world.
“That’s what we really care about: connecting people with each other,” he said.
Vox Media has also launched its online business, which includes a music app called Vox Music, which allows users to download and listen to music and podcasts from the company.
The app also features a live-streaming video channel called Vox Media Live, where users can watch and learn about the Vox music and video content they can find on the platform.
Vox has been making the move to video and audio streaming in the last year or so, with Vimeo’s move to digital as the next big step.
Williams sees Vimeo moving away from video in the next few years, and hopes to build out a platform for audio in the future.
“In the next two years, we’re going to be adding a lot more content that’s going to come in audio,” he explained.
“This is going to change the way that people listen to and consume music and news.
It’s going have all the bells and whistles that you see in digital platforms now, but it’s going live on video and we’ll have to build that into the platform.”
Vaxxed has been an early adopter of the new platform, and according to Williams, the company has seen a massive jump in downloads over the last few months.
The platform’s app is also expanding into video and music, with plans to add new channels, including a podcast channel called The Vox Show.
Vaxxing is now in the process of building out the platform’s first video channel, which will have audio content and will launch in the fall of 2020.
“Video and music is our next frontier, and Vax has been at the forefront of this, but Vox has a long way to go in audio, too,” he concluded.
